Course Overview

The AMI Montessori 0–3 Orientation Certificate (formerly known as the Assistants Course) provides a foundational look into the Montessori approach specifically for children from birth to age three. It explores how to nurture a child's natural growth during their most critical developmental years.

This course is designed for a wide range of participants, including:

  • Professionals: Classroom assistants, childcare workers, and school administrators.

  • Families: Parents, expectant parents, and grandparents who want to apply Montessori principles at home.

  • Prospective Students: Those considering a full AMI Diploma in the future.


What You Will Learn

This course focuses on key Montessori concepts, such as:

  • The balance of freedom and self-discipline.

  • Creating a "prepared environment" that supports infant and toddler needs.

  • The adult’s role in fostering independence.

  • Practical developmental milestones including movement, language acquisition, toilet learning, and sleep patterns.


Course Format & Requirements

The program totals 60 hours and is delivered in a part-time, live online format:

  • 33 hours of live online lectures and interactive discussions (active participation with cameras on is required). Participants must maintain at least 90% attendance in these sessions to qualify for certification.

  • 27 hours of independent study, including reading assignments, video resources and observation techniques.

  • Practical Work: Completion of 9 hours of child observation and the submission of three written essays.


Certification

Upon successful completion, students are awarded the AMI Montessori 0-3 Orientation Certificate. The certificate is issued by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the organization founded by Maria Montessori. This is an internationally recognized credential that certifies the holder to work as an assistant in an AMI Montessori 0-3 classroom.
